Gordes is proud of its superb château in the heart of town, which stands testimony to its rich past and stormy times. Today the château is the Pol Mara museum and the Town Hall. Near Gordes there is the Borie village, a set of the rounded buildings made from stone without the use of mortar. Also nearby lies beautiful Sénanque Abbey in a lovely valley, and the Bouillons. The cellars at the Palais Saint Firmin are also well worth a visit.
Gordes is full of culture too, and the artistic spirit, and has been home to illustrious painters such as André Lhote, Marc Chagall, Jean Deyrolle, Victor Vasarely and Pol Mara. These and other artists have found inspiration here.
